Disappointed! Lucknow residents react to mobile tariff rate hike

The honeymoon for telecom subscribers seems to have come to an end as all the three private telecom players -- Vodafone Idea, Bharti Airtel and Jio -- announced pre-paid tariff plans with 40-50 percent higher rates. With the rise in the tariffs, mobile calls and internet charges will go up by up to 50 percent in the country. Expressing disappointment over the move, residents of Lucknow said this is an attempt to burn a hole in people's pockets.

The hike comes after three years and amid the acute financial stress the sector is going through after a Supreme Court ruling on adjusted gross revenue. The hikes, however, come with enhanced data and other benefits.
