Congress To Oppose Waqf Amendment Bill, Bill To Be Sent To Select Committee | ABP News
Thursday's parliamentary session is expected to be chaotic as the government is likely to introduce a bill to amend the Waqf Act. Both the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha are predicted to see significant disruptions, with several parties, including the Samajwadi Party, already voicing opposition. The proposed Waqf (Amendment) Bill suggests renaming the Waqf Act, 1995, to the ‘Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency, and Development Act, 1995’. It also seeks to remove Section 40 of the existing law, which grants the board the authority to determine whether a property is considered Waqf property. The bill was distributed to Lok Sabha members on Tuesday night prior to its presentation.
