Breaking: Seven Killed as Sikkim Landslide Traps Workers Inside Under-Construction Tunnel

A devastating landslide in Sikkim's Namchi district has resulted in a major tragedy after the entrance to an under-construction tunnel was buried under debris, trapping workers inside. Authorities have confirmed that seven workers have lost their lives, while an extensive rescue operation remains underway to reach those still stranded within the tunnel. The incident occurred amid heavy rainfall, which triggered a sudden landslide and blocked the tunnel's entry point with mud, rocks, and debris. Around 27 workers were reportedly inside the tunnel at the time of the collapse, prompting an immediate emergency response. Rescue teams equipped with heavy machinery are working continuously to remove debris and create a safe passage into the tunnel. The operation has become increasingly challenging due to fears of a possible gas leak inside the tunnel, requiring rescue personnel to take additional safety precautions. Adverse weather conditions and unstable terrain have further complicated efforts, slowing the progress of the rescue mission. Authorities are coordinating with disaster response agencies and local officials to ensure that every possible resource is deployed for the ongoing operation. Medical teams and emergency services remain on standby as rescuers race against time to locate and evacuate those trapped. The incident has once again highlighted the dangers posed by monsoon-triggered landslides in the Himalayan region, particularly at infrastructure and construction sites. Officials are expected to release further updates as rescue efforts continue and the situation develops.
