Breaking News: Deaths from Poisonous Alcohol Soar in Bihar’s Siwan-Chapra Hooch Crisis

The recent hooch tragedy in Bihar has escalated into a significant crisis, with reports indicating a distressing rise in the death toll. Initially, the tragedy in Chhapra claimed many lives, and the situation worsened as at least six more deaths were reported in the Siwan district due to spurious liquor consumption. Victims from local villages have sparked public outrage, leading family members to protest and block roads, demanding accountability. The Bihar government, which has maintained a complete ban on alcohol since 2016, is facing increasing pressure from opposition parties, particularly the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), to address the growing incidents of illicit liquor consumption that lead to such tragedies. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar emphasized in the Assembly that those who consume spurious liquor should expect dire consequences and stated that no compensation would be provided to the victims' families. This ongoing crisis has brought to light the pervasive issue of illegal alcohol trade in Bihar, raising questions about the effectiveness of the government's prohibition measures. With calls for stricter enforcement and accountability among local authorities, the situation remains tense as investigations continue into the supply chains of the illicit liquor that have led to these tragic outcomes.
