Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway closed due to downpour

Mumbai is witnessing incessant rains marking the arrival of monsoon in the region. The city has been facing continuous rains for 48 hours which has slowed down the pace of the city also causing the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway to remain shut.

Weather experts have also issued warning of high tides in the region.

With streets flooded with water normal life has been thrown out of gear forcing many schools and colleges to remain shut.

The lower regions of Chembur and Hindmata have been affected adversely by high levels of water impoundment.

The on-and-off rain is causing mayhem as streets in Bandra, Andheri, Kurla and Ghatkopar are flooded and are causing distress to the people. Huge amount of water has been collected beneath the Andheri metro station. Daily commuters are worst-hit by the rains because of the traffic snarls in the city.

The rains have even slowed down the traffic in the Western Expressway while Central Mumbai’s Dharavi and Sion are filled with water.

As per the latest weather alerts the city can receive heavy to very heavy downpour today.

In this mayhem, a tree fell in South Mumbai near Metro Cinema and claimed two lives and injured three. The injured were rushed to G.T. Hospital.

On the contrary, the scorching heat in Delhi is expected to continue for the next two days as well. According to Skymet Weather Services, Delhi NCR, Haryana and Western Uttar Pradesh can expect monsoon to arrive by June 27.
