MP farmer commits suicide after not fulfilling the conditions to avail loan waiver| Ghanti Bajao
The announcement of a loan waiver by Chief Minister Kamal Nath in Madhya Pradesh, it seems, has failed to put a dent in farmer suicides in the state. A farmer Juan Singh, 45, father of Gulab Singh, committed suicide by hanging at his farm in MP's Khandwa.
Juan Singh had taken a loan worth Rs 3 lakh from a bank and failed to qualify for the waiver. CM Kamal Nath after assuming power made the announcement to give relief to over 35 lakh farmers (by state government estimates) for loans upto Rs 2 lakh procured from national and co-operative banks before March 31, 2018. Singh failed to made the cut as he had taken the loan of Rs 3 lakh on March 31.
