Madhya Pradesh: Reality check of Shivraj's footwear scheme | Ghanti Bajao

A major controversy erupted in Madhya Pradesh over the distribution of shoes and slippers over eight lakh tendu leaf pluckers in the state. A report received from Central Leather Research Institute indicates the use of Azo dyes in the inner sole of footwear given to them.

Azo dyes were once used in dyeing fibres, leather, plastic and foodstuff but were banned by the Centre in 1997 after being found carcinogenic.
