PM Modi Picks Waste From Floor Before Receiving Vice President, Internet Curious 'What Did He Pick Up?'

PM Narendra Modi chose a red and yellow striped "safa" for his Republic-Day look. He paired it with a white kurta-pyjama and a brown bandhgala jacket.

India celebrated its 76th Republic Day on Sunday with a grand display of its military might that included elite marching contingents, missiles and various indigenous weapon systems. Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto graced the occasion as the chief guest.

PM Narendra Modi chose a red and yellow striped "safa" for his Republic-Day look. He paired it with a white kurta-pyjama and a brown bandhgala jacket and pocket square. A video has gone viral on social media that is shot moments before PM Modi is to receive Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar at Kartavya Path, formerly known as Rajpath.

The social media handle of MyGov shared the video on X and called PM Modi the Ambassador of Swachh Bharat. Modi is seen picking up waste and handing it over to his personal security guard, who kept it in his pocket.

"Ambassador of Swachh Bharat- PM Narendra Modi! During the Republic Day event at Kartavya Path, PM Modi demonstrated the importance of cleanliness by picking up waste while receiving the Vice President," MyGov India captioned the video.

Internet users were curious as it was initially unclear what the Prime Minister picked. One user wrote, "What did he pick up?', while another lauded the effort. "Fantastic gesture as aware cleanliness program, he is so much prepared for the service of our country and wants to give the message so that can be an example for our nation as well as abroad," wrote a user.

"That's why PM Narendra Modi is different from others. Great gesture...Happy Republic Day," another user wrote.

"Small small things makes him stand apart from other Political Leaders Bharat Mata ki Jai," a user wrote on X.
