Indian Man 'Buys Chawl For Rs 1 Lakh' In London, Shows Condition Of Rented Flat In Viral Video: Watch

An Instagram user reveals how his flat was leaking from the roof despite paying Rs 1 lakh rent per month. He said it was like living in a chawl.

Thousands of people globally flock to London – including the UK – for their studies or work every year, making it a popular destination with youngsters. However, it isn’t considered a budget-friendly destination even for Londoners who move out of their family homes.

Many individuals in their late 20s and early 30s often share living spaces to cope with the high living costs. Showing how bad some of these living spaces can get, an Indian man who pays Rs 1 lakh as his rent, shared his frustration on Instagram about how it feels like living in a ‘chawl’.

Aryan Bhattacharya shared a video of his flat with the caption, “Chawl ka feeling bhi experience kar liya UK Mai”. In the now-viral video, he explained how he pays Rs 1 lakh as rent, and yet the condition of his flat is despicable. He showed water leaking from the ceiling and how he had to set up several pots and a bucket to keep his floors from getting flooded.

Bhattacharya explained further that since it was nighttime, no plumber would come to fix it and when a plumber tried to check out the issue in the morning, “he didn’t do much" he also added that he was afraid that the ceiling may fall. He said how he never lived in a chawl in India and had never experienced living in congested apartments in his country.

Hundreds of netizens took to the chance to comment on Bhattacharya’s ordeal. A netizen wrote, poked fun at the flat, and wrote “Bro India wapas aja 8000 rs me ghar dila dunga 😂” (Come back to India, I’ll get you a home in Rs 8000).

Some comments were helpful, as one user wrote, “Contact your local council and complain - your landlord cannot charge you if the house is not up to standards.”

One user wrote, how chawls were much better. “Chawls are better there are no water dripping like this, come back to India”.
