WhatsApp To Stop Working On These iPhones From October 24: Details
Meta-owned messaging platform is dropping support for very old iPhones running iOS 11 and iOS 10.
New Delhi: Meta-owned messaging platform is dropping support for very old iPhones running iOS 11 and iOS 10 which means Apple iPhone models such as iPhone 5c and iPhone 5 will be affected by the development in the coming months, according to WhatsApp beta tracker WABetaInfo. WhatsApp will stop working on iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c starting October.
"WhatsApp is always used to dropping the support for some versions of Android and iOS, in order to let the company introduce certain functionality that may not work on old operating systems. In this case, WhatsApp is now planning to drop the support for iOS 10, iOS 11, iPhone 5, and iPhone 5C over the coming months," WABetaInfo wrote on its page.
"A lot of users reported that WhatsApp was planning to drop the support for iOS 10 at the end of the last year, but it was fake news. Unfortunately, due to some internal reasons, WhatsApp is now really planning to drop the support for certain iOS versions over the coming months: we’re talking about iOS 10 and iOS 11!," the WhatsApp beta tracker added.
This also means that users who are on iOS 10 or iOS 11 need to update their devices to iOS 12 in order to continue using WhatsApp, the world's most popular messaging platform. However, WhatsApp will no longer be compatible with iPhone 5 and iPhone 5C as iOS 12 is not available for these models.
Meanwhile, in a bid to simplify the experience for users, WhatsApp has recently introduced a quick heart emoji reaction on status updates, similar to what we have seen on Instagram. WABetaInfo had informed that WhatsApp was working on this feature.
Users can see emojis above the box, instead of only a text box, when they see Status on WhatsApp. The same thing is available on Instagram Stories which is similar to WhatsApp Status.
