WhatsApp New Feature: Meta Owned Company Might Soon Remind You About Messages That You Forgot Replying To

The latest WhatsApp beta for Android (version 2.24.25.29), as noted by WABetaInfo, introduces an updated description under Settings > Notifications > Reminders.

How often has it been that you saw someone's WhatsApp message but couldn't reply at that time and later you forgot about it? Meta-owned WhatsApp is now here to help us with that pseudo-Alzheimer. WhatsApp is testing a new feature aimed at helping users stay on top of their messages. In the latest beta version for Android, the app has expanded its reminders feature, which previously alerted users about missed status updates, to include message notifications as well.

According to a feature tracker, this functionality is tailored to notify users only about updates and messages from their prioritized contacts, making it a useful tool for better message management.

WhatsApp New Feature: Reminders For Messages

The latest WhatsApp beta for Android (version 2.24.25.29), as noted by WABetaInfo, introduces an updated description under Settings > Notifications > Reminders. This new feature extends beyond status updates to include occasional reminders about missed messages. However, when ABP Live tested this, and even with the latest beta installed, the feature wasn’t accessible, indicating a gradual rollout for testers.

When enabled, the feature is expected to notify users about potentially overlooked messages in the app. WhatsApp has not yet clarified the mechanics behind this functionality or confirmed whether it applies to all contacts or select ones.

According to the feature tracker, these reminders will focus on unseen messages from specific contacts, chosen based on user interactions within WhatsApp. The selection process reportedly relies on an on-device algorithm, meaning the app will regenerate contact lists following a fresh installation.

The feature seems to be tailored to send reminders for specific conversations, avoiding overwhelming users with updates and messages from all their contacts. It is anticipated to reach more beta testers in the near future and may eventually roll out to all WhatsApp users at a later stage.
