WhatsApp Disappearing Messages Can Now Be Made Default For All Chats. Details

Meta-owned WhatsApp is now letting users enable the disappearing messages feature for all chats at one go.

New Delhi: Bringing a major update to its disappearing messages feature, Meta-owned WhatsApp is now letting users enable the disappearing messages feature for all chats at one go. The company CEO Mark Zuckerberg made the announcement through a Facebook post late on Monday.

"We're rolling out a new disappearing messages option on WhatsApp today so you'll be able to make all new chats disappear by default after 24 hours, 7 days, or 90 days. Not all messages need to stick around forever," Zuckerberg wrote on his Facebook page.

The feature initially launched in November 2020, gave users the only option of making messages disappear after a week. This feature is being expanded to let WhatsApp users delete messages just after 24 hours, 7 days or 90 days.

"Today we are excited to provide our users with more options to control their messages and how long they stick around, with default disappearing messages and multiple durations," WhatsApp wrote in a blog post.

"WhatsApp users will now have the option to turn on disappearing messages by default for all new chats. When enabled, all new one-on-one chats you or another person start will be set to disappear at your chosen duration, and we've added a new option when creating a group chat that lets you turn it on for groups you create," the company added.

This new feature, according to WhatsApp, is optional and does not change or delete any of your existing chats.

Those looking to start using the feature can go to their Privacy settings and select "Default Message Timer" and get going.
