Twitter Testing TikTok-Like 'Explore' In India, Everything You Should Know

New Delhi: Micro-blogging site Twitter is the latest to join the bandwagon of companies that are testing features similar to TikTok. Twitter's Explore, a copycat of TikTok, is being tested in select markets, including India. The feature that is being tested is essentially a vertically-scrolling Explore tab that looks a lot like ByteDance-owned TikTok that was banned in India last year. The company tweeted that it was testing the Explore feature for both Android and iOS users.
"*checks Explore tab* If it’s looking different, then you’re in our latest test: a new Explore experience to help you discover the best content that’s trending. Available in certain countries for some of you who use Twitter in English on Android and iOS," Twitter Support recently tweeted.
It should be noted that Twitter is not the only tech company that is looking to capitalise on short video platform TikTok’s rapid growth. Meta (formerly Facebook) owned Instagram Reels, Spotlight by Snapchat and YouTube Shorts are some of the names that are heavily inspired bu TikTok and are incentivising content creators to use their platforms.
The micro-blogging platform has been working to introduce personalised recommendations for its users. Earlier in November, Twitter announced it will stop automatically refreshing timelines for the web client via an update to the disappearing Tweet experience.
"An update to the disappearing Tweet experience is rolling out for web! Now you can choose when you want new Tweets to load into your timeline –– click the Tweet counter bar at the top," Twitter Support had tweeted.
