This Is What Elon Musk Says In His First Tweet Amid Twitter's Mass Layoffs

The social media company in an email to staff said that it will begin layoffs and alert employees by 9 a.m. Pacific time on Friday.

After the social media company Twitter announced to begin layoffs on Friday, Elon Musk, who acquired the microblogging site for $44 billion last week tweeted, "Why is small talk even legal!?"

"Tiny talk is talk so small it feels like it’s coming from your own mind," he added.

This is first reaction of Musk after the social media company in an email to staff said that it will begin layoffs and alert employees by 9 a.m. Pacific time on Friday (12 p.m. EDT/1600 GMT).

"In an effort to place Twitter on a healthy path, we will go through the difficult process of reducing our global workforce on Friday," said the email, seen by Reuters.

It also states that all offices will be temporarily closed and employee badge access will be suspended "to help ensure the safety of each employee as well as Twitter systems and customer data," the news agency reported.

Though there is no clarity on how many employees will lose their jobs, Musk is expected to axe roughly half of Twitter’s 7,500-workforce.

Those who will remain unaffected by the layoffs will be notified via their work email addresses. While laid off employees will be notified with next steps to their personal email addresses, said the social media platform, as reported by Reuters.

After closing the $44 billion twitter acquisition deal last week, Elon Musk dissolved the board and became the sole director of Twitter. He immediately fired the former Chief Executive Officer Parag Agrawal along with several other top leaders like Omid Kordestani, David Rosenblatt, Martha Lane Fox, Patrick Pichette, Egon Durban, Fei-Fei Li, and Mimi Alemayehou.
