Telegram Alternatives: Brosix, Signal, and more apps to choose from, in case Telegram does get banned in India.

Telegram Alternatives: Following Telegam CEO Pavel Durov's arrest in France, the instant messenger app is currently under probe in India, over usage for illegal activities such as extortion and gambling. This inquiry, which could potentially lead to a ban on the app, is being conducted by the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C), in collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), according to a report by Moneycontrol.

In case Telegram does get banned, here are 5 alternative secure messaging app you can check out instead.

Signal is widely regarded as one of the most secure messaging apps available today. Developed by Moxie Marlinspike and Brian Acton in 2014, Signal offers end-to-end encryption by default for all messages and calls. The app is open-source, meaning its code is publicly available for inspection, which adds an extra layer of trust. Signal also includes features like disappearing messages and the ability to send encrypted voice and video calls, making it a top choice for those prioritising privacy.

WhatsApp

WhatsApp, owned by Meta (formerly Facebook), is one of the most popular messaging apps globally, with over 2 billion users. It offers end-to-end encryption for all messages and calls, making it a secure option for communication. WhatsApp also includes features such as group chats, voice messaging, and the ability to send large files. However, some users may have concerns about its connection to Meta, given the company's history with data privacy issues.

Brosix

Brosix is an all-in-one team communication platform designed with security in mind. It’s ideal for businesses that require a secure messaging app for internal communication. Brosix provides end-to-end encryption, along with features like chat room controls, chat history archives, and the ability to specify data security levels. The app also includes a virtual whiteboard and screen-sharing capabilities, making it a robust tool for collaboration.

Mattermost

Mattermost is a popular alternative to both Telegram and Microsoft Teams, especially within IT and corporate environments. This platform offers secure messaging with end-to-end encryption and is designed for team collaboration. Mattermost also allows for cross-platform usage, making it accessible from various devices, and includes features like file sharing, message search, and the ability to create private chat rooms.

Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Teams is more than just a messaging app—it’s a comprehensive collaboration platform that integrates with the entire Microsoft 365 suite. Teams offer end-to-end encryption, making it a secure option for businesses and educational institutions. Users can conduct video conferences, share files, and collaborate in real-time, all within a secure environment.
