Plant's First Phase To Be Operational By Next Year

Construction of the Assam plant is set to commence this year, with plans for the initial phase to be operational by mid-2025. This project is expected to significantly boost industrialisation in north-east India, says a report by Business Today.

This development comes after the Cabinet's approval in February for three semiconductor plants, with two located in Gujarat and one in Assam. The total estimated investment for these projects is Rs 1.26 lakh crore. Notably, one of these projects includes India's inaugural semiconductor fabrication plant, a joint venture between Tata Electronics and Taiwan's Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp. (PSMC), to be established in Dholera, Gujarat, with a projected investment of Rs 91,000 crore.

Today, the state government of Assam in partnership with the Tata group will make Assam a major player in sophisticated semiconductors. This new development will put Assam on the global map. We wish to thank the Chief Minister of Assam Mr. Himanta Biswa Sarma for his support and vision that has made all this possible," Ratan Tata, Former Tata Group Chairman, was quoted as saying by Business Today.
