Reliance Jio True 5G Network Can Extend Your Smartphone's Battery Life Up To 40%? Here's What The President Said
Jio's True 5G network has been claimed to help improve the battery life of your smartphone by up to 40 per cent.
Reliance͏͏ Jio͏͏ Infocomm͏͏ Limited president, Kiran Thomas, has claimed that Jio's True 5G network can enhance the battery life of your smartphone by up to 40 per cent. Thomas claimed this during the company's earnings call for the second quarter (Q2) of FY25. Jio leverages a standalone architecture paired with technical features for the 5G services and it assigns spectrum bandwidth as per the application which when combined together helps improve the battery life of smartphones.
To understand this better, in contrast to Jio, Airtel uses a non-standalone access (NSA) approach that features the deployment of 5G technology on top of the existing 4G infrastructure. Jio, on the other hand, adopted SA which uses the 700MHz band for rural areas and the 3.5GHz for urban areas. Furthermore, the company has also reserved the 26GHz mmWave band for high-capacity applications. Jio's smart spectrum management is responsible for this and it allocates the apt spectrum based on the usage, said Thomas. This assists the company in improving the battery life of a smartphone from 20 to 40 per cent.

Other Benefits
The company has also implemented Voice over New Radio (VoNR), a 5G standard that routes calls over the 5G network, offering improved voice quality, quicker call setup, and enhanced security.
Jio leverages additional technologies, including user equipment-based layer management for optimised carrier aggregation, reduction of time division duplex (TDD) interference across spectrum bands, and dedicated network slicing. Its programmable networks utilise AI and machine learning for beam management, traffic steering, and energy efficiency.
An official from the company has also noted that Jio’s True 5G network can deliver enhanced location accuracy without solely depending on GPS. By using beam angle-of-arrival data, positioning accuracy within 10 meters is achieved.
