PM Modi Account Hack: Twitter Says Teams Took Necessary Steps, No Signs Of Other Impacted Handles

Twitter India clarified that necessary actions have been taken to secure the account as soon as they got informed about the activity.

New Delhi: After Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Twitter account was hacked on Sunday morning briefly, Twitter India clarified that necessary actions have been taken to secure the account as soon as they got informed about the activity.

“We have 24X7 open lines of communication with the PM's Office and our teams took necessary steps to secure the compromised account as soon as we became aware of this activity. Our investigation has revealed that there are no signs of any other impacted accounts at this time,” a Twitter spokesperson said on Sunday, as quoted by news agency ANI.

PM Modi’s Twitter handle was “very briefly compromised” and was secured when the issue was taken to the microblogging website, tweeted the Prime Minister’s office.

“The Twitter handle of PM @narendramodi was very briefly compromised. The matter was escalated to Twitter and the account has been immediately secured. In the brief period that the account was compromised, any Tweet shared must be ignored,” tweeted the PMO.

As per the screenshots being shared by the users, the tweet put on by the Prime Minister’s account said that India had “India has officially adopted bitcoin as legal tender.” It claimed that India has officially bought bitcoins which will be distributed to the people.

“India has officially adopted bitcoin as legal tender. The government has officially bought 500 BTC and is distributing them to all residents of the country,” read one of the now-deleted tweets according to ANI.

This is not the first time the Prime Minister’s account was hacked. In September 2020, a Twitter account that updates PM Modi’s personal website was hacked by an unknown group.
