Crime GPT: Nagpur Police Has A New AI Weapon Up Its Sleeve. Here's Everything You Need To Know

Crime GPT offers advanced analysis capabilities such as speaker identification and criminal gang analysis, enhancing its utility for investigators.

Nagpur: Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday inaugurated a new Command and Control Centre at the police control room in the Civil Lines area. During the ceremony, he also introduced the Simba app alongside an upgraded police website. Simba, an artificial intelligence (AI)-driven application, offers detailed insights into criminal activities and gangs, featuring the innovative Crime GPT.

Utilising AI, this app enables law enforcement to track the real-time locations of offenders. The newly established centre is designed to retain data for up to 90 days and allows for the monitoring of drone footage.

What Is Simba?

Simba is a sophisticated generative AI tool that provides rapid access to information from diverse sources, including CCTV footage, images, and audio related to criminal activities.

It integrates with a comprehensive database containing details on 150,000 criminals, delivering tailored information based on specific inquiries.

Noteworthy functionalities include facial recognition and speaker identification.

What Is Crime GPT?

Crime GPT, a standout feature of Simba, leverages an extensive criminal database to retrieve information from video, documents, and audio files.

Users can conduct searches using facial recognition, audio input, or natural language queries, enabling swift access to crucial data.

This vital component of Simba is supported by LVM- and LLM-based AI models and offers capabilities such as speaker identification and criminal gang analysis, enhancing its utility for investigators.

"We have observed significant benefits from advanced technologies in recent years. The implementation of Crime GPT in our operations marks a crucial step towards a digitised approach in law enforcement," stated Nagpur Police Commissioner Dr. Ravinder Singal. "By facilitating faster retrieval of information and streamlining investigative processes, Crime GPT will greatly aid ongoing criminal investigations. It will also enable better data collation across various law enforcement centres, leading to quicker resolutions."

Simba was developed by Staqu Technologies, an AI startup based in Gurugram. "The integration of SIMBA powered by our JARVIS platform underscores our commitment to providing cutting-edge technology that empowers law enforcement agencies to maintain public safety more effectively," remarked Atul Rai, co-founder and CEO of Staqu.
