Get ready to chat with an artificial intelligence (AI) assistant directly on Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram as Meta's AI-powered chatbot, Meta AI, is finally rolling out for users in India, the company announced on Monday, June 24. The social networking giant had rolled out Meta AI to select users in the country in April, after making available to a limited audience in the US since November 2023.

"Meta AI, one of the world’s leading AI assistants, now arrives in India on WhatsApp, Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, and meta.ai. And it's built with Meta Llama 3 – our most advanced LLM to date," the company said in a statement.

Built with Meta Llama 3, Meta AI is on your phone, in your pocket for free across more than a dozen countries. Meta AI is starting to roll out in India in English language as of now.

"You can use Meta AI on WhatsApp, Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram to get things done, learn, create and connect with the things that matter to you. We first announced Meta AI at last year’s Connect, and since April, we’ve been bringing the latest version of Meta AI built with Llama 3 to people around the world," the company added.

What Can Users Do With Meta AI In India

• You can use Meta AI in feed, chats and more across our apps to get things done, create content, and deep dive on topics, without having to leave the app you’re using.

Ask Meta AI in your WhatsApp group chat to recommend restaurants with great views and vegan options for you and your friends to consider. Organising a weekend getaway? Ask Meta AI to give you ideas of places to stop on a road trip. Cramming for a test? Ask Meta AI on the web to create you a multiple choice test. Moving into your first apartment? Ask Meta AI to “imagine” the aesthetic you want so that you can create a mood board of AI-generated images for inspiration on your furniture shopping.
