Jio True 5G: Reliance Jio Announces 5G Beta Trial, To Start Tomorrow In These Cities

Jio True 5G will offer speeds of over 1Gbps to select users.

Jio has finally announced an official trial date for its 5G services, dubbed Jio True 5G. As Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially announced the launch of 5G services in the country at the India Mobile Congress on October 1, leading telecom firms such as Airtel and BSNL have already announced their rollout plans for the next-gen network experience. With Jio now making its plans official, Vodafone Idea (Vi) is the only Indian telco yet to announce its 5G rollout plans.

Jio True 5G rollout plans

Jio announced on Tuesday that it will kick off the beta trials for its True 5G services on Dussehra (October 5). For now, the trials will be held in four cities only — Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Varanasi.

Only a handful of “invited customers” will be able to access True 5G trials, Jio announced in a press release. The telco will receive service and user-experience feedback and make changes as needed to ensure a stable general rollout in the coming months. No official date of a public rollout has been announced yet.

As part of the “Jio True 5G Welcome Offer”, users on trial can experience over 1Gbps of speeds. Jio users won’t need to upgrade their Jio SIM to access the same, as they will be automatically granted access to the 5G speeds.

It should be noted that you can only experience 5G speeds on a 5G-enabled handset. “Users will continue to avail of this Beta trial until the network coverage of a city is substantially complete to provide the best coverage and user experience to every customer,” Jio said.

Jio also added that the True 5G beta trials will be expanded to other cities in the future, as “cities keep getting ready”.

Jio True 5G benefits

5G will bring noticeably better data transfer speeds when compared to the current-gen 4G network. It will add other benefits such as low latency and better voice call coverage.

Jio boasts the largest wireless spectrum for 5G across three bands — 700MHz, 3,500MHz, and 26GHz. This will offer Jio an added advantage over other telcos in terms of coverage.

“India is leading the Digital revolution. Jio 5G will be True 5G, and we believe India deserves nothing less than TRUE-5G. Jio 5G will be the world’s most advanced 5G network, built for every Indian, by Indians,” said Reliance Jio Chairman Akash Ambani. “5G cannot remain an exclusive service available to the privileged few or those in our largest cities. It must be available to every citizen, every home, and every business across India. Only then can we dramatically increase productivity, earnings, and living standards across our entire economy, thereby creating a prosperous and inclusive society in our country.”
