Instagram Notes Getting New Updates, New Web Layout For Threads

The latest enhancements include the ability to like Instagram Notes, mention other users within Notes, and use prompts to initiate conversations.

Meta-owned Instagram is introducing three significant updates to its Notes feature, the company has announced. The latest enhancements include the ability to like Instagram Notes, mention other users within Notes, and use prompts to initiate conversations. Apart from this, the Meta-owned company is also rolling out a new web layout for Instagram Threads.

Instagram is also enhancing its safety features by expanding the 'Limits' function. This tool enables users to conceal direct messages (DMs) and comments from accounts that might be engaging in harassment.

A New Web Layout For Instagram Threads

The company recently started testing a new web experience for Threads that you users customise to easily find relevant content and share throughout the day. Today, May 31, the company rolled out the new web layout available to everyone.

"You can keep things simple with a single column, or add separate columns for your favorite searches, accounts, saved posts, notifications and more. You can also turn on auto-update to see new content appear in real-time. We will continue listening to your feedback to make threads.net even more useful," the company said in a statement.

What Is Instagram Notes

Instagram Notes began as brief posts limited to 60 characters, allowing users to share status updates using text and emojis within the messaging section. Over time, the feature expanded to include the sharing of short videos up to two seconds in length and music tracks. Users can also add text captions to these videos. Responses to Notes can be made using photos, videos, audio messages, stickers, and GIFs, with only the original poster able to see who has replied. Each Note remains visible for 24 hours and can be shared with either mutual followers or close friends.

A New Way For Teens To Protect Themselves On Instagram

Instagram's existing Limits tool helps people limit interactions -- comments, DMs, tags, mentions -- to their core community, like long-time followers or only people they follow back. This can be useful for creators experiencing a spike in attention or who want to focus on long-time followers.

"Today we’re expanding Limits so people, particularly teens, can limit those same interactions to Close Friends. It can come in handy if you’re being bullied, or just switched to a new school and want to keep your content close," the company added.
