Instagram Prepares To Capitalise With 2 New Features As TikTok Looks Ahead At A US Ban

These updates will initially roll out in the US, with plans to expand to other regions in the coming weeks, as confirmed by Instagram.

With TikTok potentially facing a ban in the United States this weekend, Instagram is stepping up its game to attract a surge of users by introducing enhancements to its Reels platform. If TikTok's ban goes into effect, millions of users may look for a new hub for short-form video content. To capitalise on this opportunity, Instagram has unveiled two significant updates to Reels, designed to boost user engagement and encourage stronger community interactions.

These updates will initially roll out in the US, with plans to expand to other regions in the coming weeks, as confirmed by Instagram.

Instagram New Features: What Do We Know?

Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, shared a video highlighting these new features. The first update focuses on discovering content through social connections, allowing users to see reels their friends and followers have liked or commented on through a dedicated section in the Reels tab. This addition aims to simplify exploring trending videos and joining popular conversations, making Reels a more dynamic space for interaction.

The second update aims to enhance communication by introducing a reply bar alongside reels. This feature enables users to engage in direct discussions about the videos they enjoy, making it easier to connect with creators and other viewers. For content creators, this update provides an opportunity to expand their reach, as their reels can now attract audiences beyond their immediate followers.
