Photo-sharing social media platform Instagram has announced rolling out new tools to help users regain and recover their hacked accounts. "In addition to ongoing safety tools, we’re excited to highlight several new features designed to help keep people’s accounts safe, and offer them more support if they lose account access," the company said on Thursday.

The company added that it is committed to fostering a safe and supportive community for everyone who uses Instagram. New features will allow users to make sure they have a strong password in addition to enabling two-factor authentication for the account.

The latest features will also allow users to review and increase the security of their accounts at any time by completing Instagram's security check-up. The company added, "To support accounts that are experiencing access issues or may have been hacked, we created Instagram.com/hacked-a new, comprehensive destination people can rely on to report and resolve account access issues."

For users who are not able to log into their accounts, they can enter Instagram.com/hacked on their mobile phone or desktop browser. Then they can select if they think they have been hacked, have forgotten their password, lost access to two-factor authentication, or if their account has been disabled. After this, they can follow a series of steps to help regain access to their account.

If someone has multiple accounts associated with their information, they will be able to choose which account needs support. Instagram added that it knows losing access to Instagram accounts can be stressful, and that's why it wants to ensure people have multiple options to get their accounts back if they lose access.

Earlier, Instagram had started testing another method to keep the accounts safe and secure. They had asked people to ask their friends to confirm their identity in order to help regain access to their accounts. This option continues to be available on Instagram to help recover the account.

There are several other methods that Instagram is currently testing to help recover lost or hacked accounts. It said, "We’re testing ways to help prevent hacking on Instagram before it happens." For instance, the platform removes accounts that are found to be malicious by its automated systems. These also include accounts that impersonate others or go against Community Guidelines.

Not just that, in the coming months, Instagram will also send warnings if an account that may be impersonating a business sends the user a Direct Message (DM).
