Instagram Down, Users Report Accounts Being Suspended For 'No Apparent Reason'

Instagram suffered an outage on Monday 7 pm (IST) or October 31. The weird Instagram issue seems to have affected users by suspending their accounts without "any apparent reason".

Meta-owned Instagram suffered an outage on Monday 7 pm (IST) or October 31. The weird Instagram issue seems to have affected users by suspending their accounts without "any apparent reason". Affected Instagram users took to Twitter to figure out what was happening.

According to outage detection site Downdetector.com, user reports indicated problems at meta-owned Instagram with a surge in issues at around 8 pm IST. The outage detection site also mentioned that 71 per cent of users on Instagram reported having problems with the login, 19 per cent faced issues with the Instagram app and 10 per cent reported having server connection errors.

Meanwhile, several Instagram users took to micro-blogging site Twitter and posted screenshots of their account suspension notifications that claimed their accounts do not follow the company's community guidelines.

It should be noted that the Instagram outage comes a week after Meta-owned WhatsApp was hit by the longest outage of the year on October 25. WhatsApp was down for users globally for more than two hours.

As per Downdetector's "reported problems" map, the WhatsApp outage in India appeared to affect users in cities such as Delhi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Chennai. Apart from India, WhatsApp users were also facing issues in countries like Australia, Brazil, France, Pakistan, the United Kingdom, and the United States as well.

The last major outage it saw was also its longest to date — as seen back in October 2021, when WhatsApp (as well as other Meta apps such as Instagram or Facebook) was down for nearly six hours.
