WhatsApp is currently working on an update that will let users link their accounts to an email address, allowing authentication through email verification instead of SMS. This feature was earlier available in WhatsApp's beta version, but it is now available for all WhatsApp users on iOS. According to WhatsApp updates tracker Wabetainfo, the update version 23.24.70 of WhatsApp for iPhone, brings the email verification feature. While this option to authenticate WhatsApp on devices will not replace SMS verification, it will serve as an alternative for users in areas with patchy cellular coverage, allowing them to log in to their WhatsApp accounts.

According to WhatsApp, the email ID will only used to access the account and will not be visible to others.
"In fact, WhatsApp is now introducing an extra access method to their platform, enabling users to log into their accounts in situations where they may face temporary difficulties receiving the 6-digit code via SMS. In the past few hours, WhatsApp has released the 23.24.70 update for iOS on the App Store. Currently, the official changelog doesn’t provide useful information regarding which new features are available in this version, and it’s often outdated. However, we just discovered that WhatsApp is widely rolling out this feature," Wabetainfo wrote on its page.
Once rolled out for all users worldwide, Meta-owned WhatsApp would ask for the user’s email address to protect and verify their account.
Wabetainfo adds that the email feature would be available within a new section named "Email Address" under account settings. After adding and verifying the email address, users on the world's most-popular messaging platform will be able to access the instant messaging service using their email credentials.
