Elon Musk Working To Launch Gmail Alternative Named 'Xmail'? Know Details

The revelation surfaced following a post by Nate, an engineer at X, who inquired, "When are we making Xmail?".

Tech billionaire Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, issued a warning to Google, led by Satya Nadella, stating that his platform X, formerly Twitter, will soon offer an alternative to the Gmail service. According to a report by Dailymail, during a conversation on the X platform, Musk disclosed the upcoming product named Xmail. Currently, there are no further details available, and the release date remains uncertain. However, it is anticipated that the mail service will be seamlessly integrated into the X app.

The revelation surfaced following a post by Nate, an engineer at X, who inquired, "When are we making Xmail?" Musk responded casually with his characteristic nonchalance, stating, "It's coming."

Following the exchange, Xmail quickly started trending on X, generating over 15K posts. Numerous users reacted to the news by sharing memes and voicing their opinions on Musk's latest venture.

Although Musk is renowned for his ambitious assertions, he has also implemented significant transformations to X since acquiring it. However, should Xmail come to fruition, competing with Gmail would present a formidable challenge. Reportedly, as of 2024, Gmail boasts over 1.8 billion users.

Also, anticipation shot within the tech community amid growing concerns about the future of Gmail, ignited by a viral post on X suggesting the imminent shutdown of Google's email service. The post, featuring a screenshot of an alleged email from Google titled 'Google is sunsetting Gmail,' sparked widespread panic and speculation regarding Gmail's fate.

A hoax was being circulated on micro-blogging site X, formerly Twitter, on Friday, claiming that Google intends to discontinue Gmail by 2024. However, the tech giant has mentioned that it is entirely baseless and should be treated as a hoax. The false rumour about Gmail's closure initially surfaced on X after several users shared an image supposedly depicting an email from Google.

The purported message stated: "Google is sunsetting Gmail," with a claimed shutdown date of August 1, 2024, which is entirely untrue.

Google took to X to affirm that "Gmail is here to stay," providing reassurance to millions of users that the service will not be discontinued. Despite Google's past actions of shutting down popular services, many users were misled by the hoax, mistaking it for a genuine email.

The official Gmail account on X has addressed the hoax by confirming that "Gmail is here to stay."
