Majority Of Elon Musk's Over 153 Million Followers On X Are Fake: Report

A majority of followers that tech billionaire and owner of X, formerly Twitter, Elon Musk has, are fake.

A majority of followers that tech billionaire and owner of X, formerly Twitter, Elon Musk has, are fake. A significant number of Musk's 153 million followers are fake and they may be inactive and new accounts, the media has reported. According to a report by Mashable, out of the more than 153 million followers Musk has, about 42 per cent or more than 65.3 million accounts have zero followers. The report mentioned and reviewed data collected by third-party researcher Travis Brown.

Musk's over 153 million followers make up more than a quarter of the 540 million "monthly users" that he claimed are now on X as of late July. And, if you question the legitimacy of Musk's numbers, his followers make up more than half of the "monthly active users" that Twitter said it had in the months before Musk acquired the micro-blogging platform, the report noted.

More than 100 million Musk followers have less than 10 tweets posted on their account, the data added.

This comes amid the platform's decision to disable the "block" feature on the app as Musk feels the function "makes no sense".

The announcement was made recently wherein Musk, in a series of tweets, said that the block function would be removed as a feature, and it would be available only for direct messages (DMs). His tweets came in response to a question from Tesla Owners Silicon Valley, an account representing a group of Tesla owners, inquiring about the difference between blocking and muting and their reasons.

Musk also officially renamed aggregating platform TweetDeck to XPro, earlier this month. The announcement of the renaming was made by Musk on July 28 through a tweet in which he stated, "Name is changing to XPro. Will come with a wide range of psy op plugins." Earlier on July 3, the company's support account had mentioned that XPro would only be available to those who are willing to pay for verification within 30 days.
