No, That's Not Elon Musk — It's Luxembourg's Hugo One, And He's Had Enough Of The Mistake

Hugo says the mistaken identity has followed him everywhere — from supermarket aisles to late-night bars.

For most artists, viral fame is a dream. But for Hugo One, a 28-year-old singer from Luxembourg, it's been more of a mixed bag — and all because he bears an uncanny resemblance to Elon Musk. Instead of being recognised for his music, Hugo often finds himself fielding attention from people convinced they’ve spotted the world’s richest man.

The comparison isn’t new. It started back in 2018 when someone first pointed out the resemblance. Since then, Hugo says the mistaken identity has followed him everywhere — from supermarket aisles to late-night bars. “They were the fifth group of people to stop me that night – I was exhausted,” he told the New York Post, describing an evening when students swarmed him for selfies, mistaking him for Musk.

Despite the attention, Hugo is anything but flattered.

'It’s Not A Compliment'

Hugo is refreshingly blunt about how he feels when people call him Musk’s lookalike. “I don’t take it as a compliment to be compared to Elon because he’s not a nice person. He’s also not at all good looking,” he said.

While most might consider such a resemblance a ticket to instant fame, Hugo sees it as a recurring nuisance. He estimates he gets stopped by strangers at least twice a month — and no, he’s not planning a style makeover to avoid it. “I like the way I look,” he told SWNS, making it clear that he’s not changing for anyone, billionaire comparisons be damned.

A Viral Twist That Helped His Music

That said, not all the Musk confusion has been bad. Hugo admits that the viral clips of him being mobbed by people mistaking him for the Tesla CEO have led to an unexpected perk: a boost in his music career. “It’s created some great traffic to my page and people are downloading my songs,” he shared.

Even so, Hugo is determined to draw a clear line between himself and the controversial tech mogul. “As long as people know I don’t align with Elon or his beliefs, I don’t mind,” he said.

So next time you think you’ve bumped into Elon Musk in Europe — maybe pause before you pull out your phone. It might just be Hugo One, and he’s not exactly flattered.
