After days of mounting tensions between India and Pakistan, a sudden diplomatic breakthrough has led to an “immediate” ceasefire agreement between the two nations. The move comes in the aftermath of a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir on April 22, which significantly escalated hostilities.
The United States claimed a central role in defusing the crisis. President Donald Trump, via his Truth Social account, confirmed, “After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE.” Trump also reposted the statement on Twitter, amplifying the announcement.
According to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, he and Vice President JD Vance were in constant touch with high-level officials from both countries over the past 48 hours. “Over the past 48 hours, @VP Vance and I have engaged with senior Indian and Pakistani officials, including Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Shehbaz Sharif, External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir, and National Security Advisors Ajit Doval and Asim Malik," Rubio wrote on Twitter.
"I am pleased to announce the Governments of India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire and to start talks on a broad set of issues at a neutral site. We commend Prime Ministers Modi and Sharif on their wisdom, prudence, and statesmanship in choosing the path of peace," he added.
Elon Musk's One-Word Response Sparks Reactions
While political leaders scrambled to broker peace, tech billionaire and Trump ally Elon Musk offered his reaction to Rubio’s post in his signature minimalist style. The Tesla CEO, who goes by the name 'Gorklon Rust' on X, simply replied: “Congratulations.”

Still, the diplomatic effort was praised by US Vice President JD Vance, who publicly acknowledged Rubio’s efforts. “Great work from the President’s team, especially Secretary Rubio. And my gratitude to the leaders of India and Pakistan for their hard work and willingness to engage in this ceasefire,” Vance tweeted, also sharing Trump’s message on the agreement.
Whether the ceasefire holds or not remains to be seen, but for now, even a one-word approval from one of the world’s most influential tech leaders has added a curious footnote to this high-stakes international episode.
