Dolly Chaiwala Is Microsoft's Brand Ambassador? Why Google AI Overview Is Throwing Up Such A Result

Microsoft Brand Ambassador: A viral video featuring Bill Gates, Microsoft’s co-founder, has contributed to Dolly Chaiwala’s newfound fame.

Microsoft Brand Ambassador: In a quirky and unexpected turn of events, Google search results for "Brand Ambassador of Microsoft" are displaying an unusual name: Dolly Chaiwala, a popular tea vendor from Nagpur, India. Known locally as Dolly Chaiwala, Sunil Patil gained popularity for his unique chai-making style and lively Instagram content. Yet, while he’s become a local sensation, the idea of Dolly being the official face of Microsoft is, as one might suspect, an amusing misunderstanding fueled by social media.

ABP Live could independently verify that Google was indeed showing such a result at the time of writing.

Dolly Chaiwala Is Microsoft's Brand Ambassador? Why Google AI Overview Is Throwing Up Such A Result

Why Is Google Showing Such A Result?

The mix-up stems from a satirical Instagram post shared by The Bindu Times, a parody news account, which humorously claimed Dolly Chaiwala had been appointed as Microsoft’s brand ambassador for its upcoming Windows 12 operating system.

While the post was labelled as satire, the disclaimer was overlooked by many social media users, leading to a viral trend. Now, Google’s AI Overview — which summarises popular topics and aggregates content from news sources and social media — is displaying this playful misrepresentation as fact.

Also, there is a popular Microsoft Community discussion on if Dolly Chaiwala is the brand ambassador of Microsoft.

Gates' Viral Meeting With Dolly Chaiwala

Further stirring the rumour mill, a viral video featuring Bill Gates, Microsoft’s co-founder, has contributed to Dolly’s newfound fame. During a trip to India, Gates was seen enjoying tea at Dolly Chaiwala’s Nagpur stall. In the video, titled "One Chai Please," Gates praised India as a home to innovation, mentioning even “a great cup of tea.” The video captivated social media audiences, fueling Dolly’s popularity and perhaps adding to the hilarity of the Microsoft brand ambassador mix-up.

When asked about his interaction with Bill Gates, Dolly Chaiwala confessed he didn’t recognise Gates right away. "I didn’t know who he was," Dolly admitted during a chat with ANI, adding, “I thought he was just a foreign visitor, so I served him tea as I would any other customer. The next day, I found out whom I served tea to!”

Dolly’s accidental brush with a tech giant has only expanded his ambitions. He expressed his hopes of someday serving tea to India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying, “I feel I have become 'Nagpur ka Dolly Chaiwala.' My dream is to serve tea to everyone with a smile, whether it's Bill Gates or the Prime Minister.” This mix of ambition and humour has won Dolly even more fans across India.

The rumour highlights how quickly satire can become "fact" in the age of social media and AI. Though Microsoft hasn’t commented on the mishap, Dolly’s story serves as a reminder of how digital misinformation can take on a life of its own. In the end, it’s an amusing tale of how a simple cup of tea and a viral post turned a local tea vendor into an unexpected social media celebrity.
