Punjabi singer Daler Mehndi on Wednesday became the first Indian to perform in a Metaverse concert during Republic Day.

New Delhi: As the race in the metaverse space heats up, popular Punjabi singer Daler Mehndi on Wednesday became the first Indian to perform in a Metaverse concert during Republic Day. Earlier on January 17, the singer had mentioned that he would perform in Metaverse to mark the 73rd Republic Day celebrations. Mehndi had also posted a video on his official Instagram handle for users to click and claim free concert passes, via a link.

The celebrated singer performed at Party Nite -- one of the first metaverse spaces in the country. According to the official website of partynite.metaverse, it is a “digital parallel universe, powered by blockchain”.

According to reports, the singer earlier informed that in the wake of a technical snag the show had to be delayed. "Due to sudden surge of 15 lakh logins in our platform, we are facing a minor technical breakdown. So sorry, I'm not able to interact with you here today. Always proud of the outpouring love from my fans. Total 2 crore people witnessed this initiative. Login servers are now up & running. Keep rocking & Happy Republic Day!!," he wrote in the caption.

Metaverse is a blockchain-supported fully functional virtual universe that has caught the attention of almost all tech giants, primarily Meta (formerly Facebook), Microsoft, retail giant Walmart and so on. As we all know, social networking giant Facebook adopted a new moniker Meta in late October (Meta), based on sci-fi term metaverse and the latest to join the bandwagon are the likes of Chinese players like Tencent and Alibaba that are bullish on the global trend of metaverse in vogue.
