Apple Vision Pro To Receive VisionOS 2 Update Later This Year: Here's What's New

Apple’s Vision Pro is set to receive VisionOS 2, adding spatial photo support, gesture upgrades, and ultrawide Mac display compatibility to improve work and entertainment.

Apple has announced that VisionOS 2, the first major update for its Vision Pro headset, will roll out in autumn 2025. The update brings several usability improvements, including gesture upgrades and display enhancements.

Spatial Photos and Smoother Navigation

One of the standout features in VisionOS 2 is the ability to convert standard 2D photos into spatial images. Using on-device machine learning, this feature adds depth to older photos for use within the headset.

Users will also see new hand gestures for navigating the interface, along with better support for the Magic Keyboard and Trackpad, aimed at improving overall control and flexibility.

Larger Display Support for Mac Users

The update expands the Mac Virtual Display option, allowing Vision Pro users to project an ultrawide virtual screen that Apple says matches the view of two 4K monitors. While the feature may appeal to professionals, its full practical impact remains to be seen.

Multitasking also gets minor improvements, making it easier to move apps and windows using hand and eye tracking.

Global Rollout and Availability

The VisionOS 2 update will be available free for current Vision Pro users later this year. Though the headset has so far been sold only in the US, Apple is preparing to launch it in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Singapore, and the UK by July 12.

The upcoming software update adds functionality that could make the headset more adaptable for different types of users. Whether it improves the headset’s appeal beyond niche use remains to be seen.
