Apple Expands India Footprint: 4 New Retail Stores Planned, Made-In-India iPhone 16 Pro To Enter Production

Apple currently employs over 3,000 people in the country, and the number is expected to rise as Apple continues to grow its retail operations.

Apple has announced plans to open four additional retail stores in India, expanding its presence to Pune, Bengaluru, Delhi-NCR, and Mumbai. These new locations will add to the company’s existing stores in Delhi and Mumbai, which opened in April 2023.

In addition to its retail expansion, Apple will soon introduce its first-ever "Made in India" iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models, with production set to begin this month. According to sources, the locally manufactured iPhone 16 Pro series will be available for purchase both in India and select international markets.

Deirdre O'Brien, Apple's Senior Vice President of Retail, shared the company’s enthusiasm about growing its team in India. "We're thrilled to build our teams as we plan to open more stores in India because we're inspired by the creativity and passion of our customers across this country. We can't wait for them to have even more opportunities to discover and shop for our amazing products and services, and connect with our extraordinary, knowledgeable team members," O'Brien stated.

High-End iPhone Models For The First Time

Apple has been producing iPhones in India since 2017, though earlier efforts focused on older models. In recent years, the company has accelerated its local production capabilities, with the India-made iPhone 15 series being available on launch day. The upcoming iPhone 16 Pro series marks the first time Apple will produce high-end models in India from day one of their release.

The Cupertino tech giant currently employs over 3,000 people in the country, and the number is expected to rise as Apple continues to grow its retail operations. Apple also recently opened a 15-floor office in Bengaluru, designed to house 1,200 employees and equipped with labs, collaboration spaces, and other amenities.

With India's growing importance in Apple's global supply chain, the company’s investment in local production and retail expansion underscores its commitment to the market.
