Apple Promises To Fix The Glitch In Notification Summary Mechanism, Here's What Happened
After BBC spotted Apple Intelligence's notification summary working incorrectly, it filed a formal complaint regarding the matter.
Apple Intelligence has faced criticism for errors in its notification summary. The issue gained attention after the BBC lodged a formal complaint about a false claim stating that Luigi Mangione, accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, had died by suicide, even though he is actually in prison.
In another incident, Apple Intelligence incorrectly reported that tennis player Rafael Nadal had announced he was gay, which is untrue.
Apple Reacts
Apple issued a clarification to the BBC in which it promised that it would fix the notification summary issues. Apple told BBC, "Apple Intelligence features are in beta and we are continuously making improvements with the help of user feedback.”
It added, “A software update in the coming weeks will further clarify when the text being displayed is summarisation provided by Apple Intelligence. We encourage users to report a concern if they view an unexpected notification summary.”
Apple Notification Summary Feature
With the release of iOS 18.1, Apple unveiled Apple Intelligence, a new feature designed to enhance user experience. One key addition is the notification summary, which prioritises essential updates to help users stay focused.
Instead of displaying all notifications at once, the feature curates a summary of the most important ones. Users can customise this functionality by navigating to Settings, selecting Notifications, and enabling the "Summarise Previews" option.
