Apple iOS 15 Release Date Is Sept 20: Know What's New And What The Big Software Update Will Change

Apple iPhone iOS 15 Release: People using iPhone 6s, and subsequent models & those having 1st or second generation iPhone SE, and the 7th generation of iPod touch will be able to download iOS 15

New Delhi: Apple, which introduced a series of products at the 'California Streaming' event Tuesday, also announced that it is coming up with iOS 15, along with iPadOS 15 soon. The tech giant had first unveiled the updates of this new free operating system at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June this year.

Apple follows the typical pattern of releasing an upgraded version of its current operating software, a week after an iPhone launch event. And it is no different this year.

Apple iOS15 Release Date

Apple said it will release the upgraded operating software, iOS 15 and iPadOS 15, on Monday, September 20.

At the virtual WWDC in June, Apple had announced that iOS 15 will provide new features that will help the user connect with others, explore the world and use powerful intelligence to do more with the iPhone.

Apple has fixed some bugs of the Beta 7 version of iOS 15. These include enabling people to use Siri to switch between any available Focus mode. Also, the Bay Bridge in Maps is scaled at high zoom levels, and the user can add additional participants to a phone call while on a 3G cellular network. Also, weather animations no longer lag, and are much smoother.

What to expect from iOS 15?

  • iOS 15 will allow the user to invite Android and Window users through FaceTime.
  • Conversations will feel more natural because of the Spatial Audio feature.
  • The Wide Spectrum feature will leave the ambient sound unfiltered, while Voice Isolation will minimise background noise.
  • A section named Shared with You will be introduced, where the content shared in Messages will be stored.
  • A new set of features provided by the iOS 15 upgrade will enable users to control their way of prioritising time and attention. The new 'Focus' mode is one of the biggest changes of iOS 15, as it will help the users match the devices to their mindset. They can choose from a list of Focus options, and decide which notifications they want to allow. The user's status will be automatically displayed in communication apps, while using Focus.
  • The notifications have been redesigned for iOS 15, which will help the user quickly catch up with helpful notifications, based on the schedule set by him or her. One can create a Work Mode, Workout Mode, or Sleep Mode.
  • One of the most interesting features of iOS 15 is SharePlay, with which iPhone users can watch together, listen together, and share the screen right inside FaceTime. Some more interesting features are the improvements made to FaceTime, so that it sounds and feels more natural. According to a developer update by Apple provided on August 17, however, SharePlay will not be available in the initial release of iOS 15 but will be enabled for use to the public, in software updates later this fall.
  • The Memoji feature has an interesting update, enabling the user to customise Memoji with different clothings, eye colours and glasses.
  • The maps will be incorporated with new driving features that will enable the driver to visualise traffic conditions at a glance. There is a new Weather Map, along with detailed driving maps.
  • The look of Safari has also been redefined. For instance, the bottom tab bar will enable the user to swap between tabs, and Tab Groups will allow the user to organise tabs efficiently.
  • A feature called Live Text, which works in the Camera App, will allow the user to scan photos for text. Live Text allows translation as it understands seven different languages. It also intelligently unlocks rich and useful information in images.
  • The Spotlight feature enables the user to see more information about artists and movies at a glance with rich results, and to search based on text in photos, using Live Text. Spotlight in iOS 15 will also enable finding images shared through Messages by including a contact name in the search.
  • Apple will also introduce iCloud+, which has new features such as iCloud Private Relay, Hide My Email, and Expanded HomeKit Secure Video support.
  • With Hide My Email, the users won't have to share real email address when filling out a form on the web, or signing up for a newsletter, as they can create unique, random email addresses.
  • Memory mixes, a new interactive interface, can be used to personalise photos with a song.
  • Siri can now use onscreen text to send a message or place a call.
  • People using iPhone 6s, and subsequent models, and those having 1st or second generation iPhone SE, and the seventh generation of iPod touch, will be able to download iOS 15.
