Tamil Nadu: Policeman's Wife Hands Over 3.7 Kg Of Stolen Gold In Fedbank Heist Case
On Thursday, Inspector Amalraj and his wife were detained for inquiry after one of the accused Santhosh told the police that he hid the gold at Amalraj's home.
Chennai: The Arumbakkam police recovered 3.7 kg of gold jewelry, which was stolen from Fed Bank Financial services limited’s Arumbakkam branch, from the wife of a police inspector on Saturday. The police officer's wife, however, has been maintaining that one of the accused, who is her relative, left it at their home without their knowledge.
According to a report on The Hindu, M Santhosh, who was part of the heist case, reportedly stayed at the inspector Amraj's house in Melmaruvathur before trying to flee to Thiruvannamalai. During his stay, he reportedly kept some of the stolen gold at the inspector’s house.
On Thursday, Amalraj and his wife were detained for inquiry. The cops are questioning the couple and trying to establish the role of Amalraj in the heist.
The couple was detained after Santhosh told the police that he hid the gold at Amalraj's home. Later, Fedbank officials went to the place, saw the gold and said that it was the one stolen from their Arumbakkam branch.

The police already recovered 18 kg gold from Balaji and another 10 kg from Suryah, other suspects in the case. The police have so far arrested Murugan, Senthil, Santhosh, Balaji and Suryah.
The Heist
It all started after the prime suspect Murugan reportedly convinced the other accused, some of them were his school classmates, to the robbery. Murugan was an employee of Fedbank who was working in Arumbakkam branch and later he was transferred to Padi branch.
On Saturday, the gang allegedly barged into Fedbank's Arumbakkam branch and decamped with 31.5 kg of gold worth Rs 15 crore. The police cracked the case after two employees of the firm who were tied by the gang inside the strongroom of the firm identified Murugan.

Meanwhile, the police are on a lookout to find two more accused in the case.
