Tamil Nadu: Man Attends Lover's Wedding, Snatches 'Thaali' From Priest & Tries To Tie It To Her

The police said that the bride had also sent a text to the man saying "come and get" before the dramatic scene unfolded in the hall.

Chennai: A 24-year-old man who went to attend his lover's wedding on Friday instead snatched the 'thaali' (Mangalsutra) from the priest and attempted to tie it to the bride at a marriage hall in Nethaji Nagar of Tondiarpet. However, the bride’s family pulled him down from the stage and thrashed him for his act. 

According to a report on Times of India, two families arranged for a marriage between a 20-year-old management employee and a 21-year-old marine engineer. The marriage was scheduled for Friday. 

The police said, on the day of the wedding while the priest was set to hand over the 'thaali' to the groom, a youth immediately snatched it from the priest and attempted to tie it to the bride. However, a group of men who were on the stage dragged him off the stage and thrashed him.

Meanwhile, the youth from Washermenpet and the bride were in a relationship while they were working together for two years at a shop in Chennai. However, both families did not approve of their relationship. Hence, the youth hatched the plan to stop the wedding and marry his lover.

The police said that the bride had also sent a text to the man saying "come and get" before the dramatic scene unfolded at the hall, said a report on The New Indian Express.

Following this, an altercation erupted between the families of the bride and groom and the wedding was stalled. The police did not register a case in connection with the incident but informed the lover’s family.

The bride's family is in talks with the families of both the youngsters to sort out the issue amicably.
