Tamil Nadu: Family Burns Man's Corpse Without Informing, Wife Accuses Kin Of Caste Killing

Woman alleged that her husband's relatives murdered him and burned his corpse as a caste killing since both of them were from different castes.

Chennai: A woman with her newborn baby girl filed a complaint at the Arani police station in connection with the suspicious death of her husband on September 17. Woman alleged that her husband's relatives murdered him and burned his corpse which could be termed as a caste killing act since both of them were from different castes and married against the wishes of the groom’s parents.

According to a report in ABP Nadu, the woman Amul was from Ariyanellur village of Tiruvallur district and was working as a nurse in a private hospital in Chennai. Every day Amul used to come to Chennai by train and by that time she developed a relationship with one Gowtham from Karani village of Arani. Both of them were from different caste groups.

In 2019, Gowtham confessed about the girl to his parents but they denied to accept her. However, Gowtham married Amul despite the opposition and both of them were residing in Chennai. Occasionally Gowtham used to travel to his father's home in Arani on weekends.

In this backdrop, Amul became pregnant and hence the couple relocated to Avarur village to reside next to her sister's home. Then Amul gave birth to a baby girl last month.

On September 17, Gowtham's relatives called him and informed that one of their relatives passed away and told him to come to their native village. Soon, Gowtham rushed to the place. However, he did not return home and Amul tried to reach her husband's phone number. However, he was unreachable.

Hence, Amul's family members went to Gowtham's village and they were shocked to see condolence posters stuck for Gowtham.

The relatives informed Amul and she filed a complaint with her daughter demanding the police to take action against those responsible for the caste killing. She raised suspicions on why she was not informed about the death and Gowtham's corpse was burnt on the same day he reached the town without any information.
