RN Ravi Sworn-In As Governor Of Tamil Nadu. Know All About Him

Chief Justice of the Madras High Court Sandeep Baneerji administered the oath of office to Ravi during the swearing-in ceremony that took place at Raj Bhavan in Guindy.

Chennai: RN Ravi took charge as the 26th governor of Tamil Nadu on Saturday. Chief Justice of the Madras High Court Sandeep Baneerji administered the oath of office to Ravi during the swearing-in ceremony that took place at Raj Bhavan in Guindy. 

Ravi succeeded Banwarilal Purohit who was appointed as the governor of Punjab and the administrator of the union territory of Chandigarh.

Chief Secretary V Irani Anbu read the warrant of appointment that was issued by the president of India Ram Nath Kovind to Ravi about ten days ago. 

Chief Minister MK Stalin, opposition leader Edappadi K Palaniswami, ministers, judges, MPs, MLAs, diplomats, bureaucrats and others were present during the swearing-in ceremony. Former Telangana governor ESL Narasimhan, former chief justice of India and former Kerala governor P Sathasivam and former national security advisor and former West Bengal governor M K Narayanan were among the special invitees who attended the function.

According to media reports, Ravi who was born at Patna in Bihar, holds a master degree in physics and became an IPS officer of Kerala cadre in 1976. He worked with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and in the Intelligence Bureau (IB). 

Quoting a statement from Raj Bhavan, a Times of India report said that the governor specialized in the field of dynamics of human migration in South Asia, worked on the political sociology of border population and played an important role in conflict resolutions in areas that are affected with ethnic insurgencies. 

The report further said that he was appointed as the centre’s interlocutor for Naga peace talks in 2014 and deputy national security advisor in 2018 before he became governor of Nagaland in 2019.
