The cyclone-affected Chennai came to a standstill after the heavy incessant downpour on Monday. However, most of the places have returned to normal, said TN CM.

On Friday, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin in a release said that a massive catastrophe was averted only due to the timely completion of stormwater drain work ahead of the monsoon season. The CM said that over one crore people have been affected by the worst unprecedented rains in the past 47 years due to the cyclone.

Normalcy has returned to most places in Chennai and nearby areas, which were ravaged by Cyclone Michaung, he said.

Earlier, Tamil Nadu government sought the Centre an interim relief of Rs 5,060 crore. Till now, the Centre has cleared two installments of Rs 450 crore each to the state for relief works.
