Madras HC Permits PM Modi's Roadshow In Coimbatore On March 18 With Certain Conditions

Earlier, the BJP had formally requested permission for a 3.6-kilometer roadshow to be conducted during the visit.

Amid speculations that permission was denied for PM Modi's road show in Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore, Madras High Court granted permission to PM Narendra Modi's March 18 roadshow in Coimbatore with certain conditions.

On Friday, Justice Venkatesh has directed the Coimbatore police to allow a 4-kilometer roadshow during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's upcoming visit to the city on March 18. However, the court has imposed specific conditions to ensure the smooth conduct of the roadshow.

As part of his South India tour in preparation for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Prime Minister's itinerary included a roadshow in the industrial-textile city of Coimbatore. The BJP had formally requested permission for a 3.6-kilometer roadshow to be conducted during the visit.

According to sources speaking to India Today, concerns over security threats, Coimbatore's communal history, and potential inconvenience to the general public, particularly students, were among the factors cited by the police when initially denying permission for the roadshow.

With the crucial Lok Sabha elections just weeks away, the BJP has significantly ramped up its outreach efforts in the southern states of Kerala, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is leading the charge, spearheading the party's campaigns in regions where the BJP has yet to establish a substantial presence.

In Tamil Nadu, the BJP is going to contest without its ally AIADMK for the first time since the latter's departure from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) last year. Tensions arose following controversies surrounding the BJP's state chief K Annamalai and which later led to the dissolution of the alliance by AIADMK chief Edappadi Palaniswami.
