Chennai: Gee Gee, Electrician's Daughter, Tops Civil Service Exam In TN

The son of Chennai Corporation Commissioner J Radhakrishnan, Arvind Radhakrishnan, secured an India rank of 361. 

Gee Gee AS (22) of Kolathur not only cracked the Civil Service Examination 2022 conducted by Union Public Service Commission in her first attempt but also topped the list of successful candidates in Tamil Nadu. Gee Gee cleared the exam after selecting Tamil literature as an optional paper. 

According to a report in The Hindu, Gee secured an all-India rank of 107 and ranked first in Tamil Nadu in the civil service exam. Gee appeared for the civil service exam after completing her graduation in commerce. 

Gee said that she was first introduced to civil service by her professor in the final year of her undergraduate course. She said that she then enrolled herself in a private IAS academy where she took a foundation course. She also thanked her mentors Karthikeyan and Senthil for helping her during the process.

Gee said that she was inspired to do civil service after seeing the work done by the Chennai Corporation in the last few years, especially the beautification projects undertaken by former Chennai Commissioner Gagandeep Singh Bedi.

Gee Gee's father is a daily wage employee doing electrical work while her mother is a homemaker. Gee Gee completed her schooling at Jaigopal Garodia Matriculation Higher Secondary School at Shanthi Colony. She then pursued her B.Com at Stella Maris College in Chennai, as per the report. 

Meanwhile, the children of three IAS officers of Tamil Nadu cadre have also cleared the UPSC exam. 

The son of Chennai Corporation Commissioner J Radhakrishnan, Arvind Radhakrishnan, secured an India rank of 361 and the daughter of IAS officer D Jagannathan, DJ Chathriya Kavin, secured a rank of 169. 

The daughter of IAS officer Atul Anand, Eshani, secured rank 290.

However, for the first time in two decades, no one from Tamil Nadu featured in the top 100 ranks in UPSC exam.
