A police canine helped in solving a murder mystery by sniffing out the watchman who killed a six-year-old girl in Agra.
A sniffer dog helped in unearthing a murder mystery in Uttar Pradesh where a watchman murdered a six-year-old girl after an unsuccessful rape attempt in Agra. According to a police official, he drowned the child in a water tank and her head was bludgeoned with a stone, as reported by news agency IANS. Her lifeless body was discarded in a pile of garbage. Upon noticing her absence, the deceased's family started searching for her and the 45-year-old accused feigned assistance in the search initially.
A Labrador police dog named Jabbar kept barking continuously upon encountering the accused, Rajveer Singh, said a police official.
The continuous barking raised suspicions following which the suspect was apprehended within a few hours, reported IANS.
A probe was launched and during the interrogation, Rajveer confessed to his crime. The minor's father lodged a complaint following which the watchman who was responsible for safeguarding crop fields from stray cattle now faces criminal charges under Section 302 (Murder) of IPC.
DCP Suraj Kumar Rai told IANS, “The accused abducted the child while she was playing outside her house. During a sexual assault attempt, Rajveer killed the child because she resisted him and cried out for help.”
Both the accused and the victim hailed from the same village, as reported by IANS.
Earlier in March, a German Shepherd Kattie caught the suspect in the murder of a 21-year-old man. The canine was able to sniff out the murder suspect 'within 30 seconds' of being deployed in the probe, as reported by the Times of India. The deceased Shakib Ahmad's body was recovered from a field under Uttarakhand's Jaspur. A blood-stained cloth belonging to Ahmad was provided for the dog to sniff. Following this, police officials asked the suspects including his family members to stand in a row.
After everyone lined up, within 30 seconds, the dog started barking at Ahmad's cousin named Qasim, who was standing second in the line. This raised suspicion after which police interrogated him. During the interrogation, Qasim broke down and confessed to his crime. and was later arrested, the report added.
