Uttar Pradesh: Pregnant Woman 'Gang-Raped' In Pilibhit, Accused Booked After 4 Months On Court Order
The woman said she approached the top police officers after the incident, however they took no cognisance of her complaint, nor did they file any FIR, after which she was forced to approach the court.
New Delhi: After the orders of the chief judicial magistrate, police booked two persons for allegedly gang-raping a 33-year-old pregnant woman while she was returning home after giving lunch to her husband in Uttar Pradesh’s Pilibhit on July 16, police said on Tuesday.
According to the complaint, the woman was allegedly raped by two men of her village on July 16 this year. She said that the incident took place around 11am when she was returning home after giving food to her husband, who was working in a field. The accused dragged her into a sugarcane field where they raped her at knifepoint, police said.
As per the woman, she approached the top officers of police after the incident, however they took no cognisance of her complaint, nor did they file any FIR, after which she was forced to approach the court.
On the orders of the court, police have registered a case for gangrape, Sungarhi Police Station in-charge Madan Mohan Chaturvedi said, as reported by news agency PTI.
He said that the duo has been booked under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 376 D (gang-rape), 313 (causing miscarriage without woman’s consent) and 506 (criminal intimidation).
The matter is being probed and action will be taken on the basis of whatever facts come to light, Chaturvedi said, adding that the accused will be arrested soon.
It is to be noted that the woman was two and half months pregnant when the incident took place and she suffered a miscarriage because of the assault, police said.
Earlier, in September this year, a 16-year-old Dalit girl succumbed to injuries after was allegedly gangraped and set on fire by two men in Pilibhit, according to reports.
After allegedly gang-raping her, the accused poured diesel on her and set her on fire in a bid to kill her, police said.
