Uttar Pradesh: Ganga Water Level Hits All-Time Low In Varanasi Amid Searing Heatwave

UP News: The impact of sweltering heat was seen in Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi, where the water level of the Ganga hit its lowest level to date.

UP News: The people across the country are facing the brunt of scorching heat this summer season. The rising temperatures are causing problems for citizens, especially those in north India. The impact of sweltering heat was seen in Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi, where the water level of the Ganga hit its lowest level to date.

Due to the low water level, the Ganga has left the ghats - broken boats, scattered garbage, and broken boulders can be seen damaging the scenic beauty of the ghats.

Meanwhile, the national capital has been reeling under a water crisis since last week, and the residents are finding it very difficult to fulfill their daily needs and are heavily dependent on water tankers for supply.

In view of the water shortage, the Delhi government has appealed to Haryana to discharge additional water into the Yamuna on humanitarian grounds, senior AAP leader and minister Atishi said on Saturday.

Speaking at a press conference in the national capital, Delhi's water minister said that the capital is facing a shortage of 70 million gallons per day (MGD) in production due to lack of raw water in the Munak canal and Wazirabad reservoir. The normal water production of around 1,002 MGD in Delhi went down to 932 MGD on Friday because of lack of raw water, she said.

"The Delhi government has appealed to Haryana to release additional water for the people of the city on humanitarian grounds," the minister said and added that issues related to share of Yamuna water can be discussed after heatwave conditions abate, as reported by PTI.
