Hyderabad: Jubilee Hill Shop Found Selling Whiskey-Infused Ice Cream To Customers

The ice cream parlour allegedly mixed 60 ml of whiskey per kg of ice cream and marketed the alcohol-laced dessert at high prices.

Hyderabad news: An ice cream parlour in Jubilee Hills has been caught selling whiskey-mixed ice cream to customers, which included children, triggering outrage and a swift response from law enforcement. The Excise Enforcement Police raided the Arico Cafe on Road No. 11 and 55 in Jubilee Hills, seizing 11.5 kg of ice cream that was found to contain 100 Pipers whiskey. The parlour allegedly mixed 60 ml of whiskey per kg of ice cream and marketed the alcohol-laced dessert at high prices.

According to the Excise Department, the parlour even advertised the liquor-mixed ice cream on Facebook to attract more customers. Excise Superintendent Pradeep Rao, who led the operation, confirmed that the sale of alcohol-based products to children is a serious offense under Section 34A of the Excise Act. "Strict action will be taken against those responsible," Rao stated.

The individuals behind the preparation of the whiskey-laced ice cream have been identified as Dayakar Reddy and Shobhan. An FIR has been registered, and investigations are ongoing.

Excise Superintendent Pradeep Rao, who led the operation, stated that the café was managed by ‘Bagel Brigade Foods LLP,’ a company specializing in bagels, doughnuts, and similar items.

In Bengaluru's Koramangala, restobars were serving booze-infused popsicles and liquor-laced ice creams. These alcoholic desserts, which were especially popular during the summer, quickly became a hit.

Back in 2019, Foxtrot, a bar in Koramangala, introduced alcohol-infused popsicles with flavors like blueberry, honey and milk, lychee, and orange, all mixed with vodka. Meanwhile, Sly Granny served a unique twist by offering a regular blueberry sorbet popsicle in a glass of sparkling wine.

Meanwhile, a three-day Indian Ice Cream Expo was held at Helipad in Gandhinagar from Tuesday. The expo was organised by Indian Ice-Cream Manufacturers' Association with an aim to showcase new trend in the industry.
