Gujarat News: This incident unfolded on Friday morning during the VHP's 'Shaurya Jagran Yatra,' which was making its way near a mosque in the Selamba village

At least twelve individuals, including two police officers, sustained injuries when unidentified assailants launched a stone-pelting attack on a religious procession organised by the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) in Gujarat's Narmada district. This incident unfolded on Friday morning during the VHP's 'Shaurya Jagran Yatra,' which was making its way near a mosque in the Selamba village, news agency PTI reported police as informing.

Superintendent of Police, Prashant Sumbe, informed that as the Yatra passed the mosque, miscreants hurled stones at the procession, resulting in injuries to approximately 10 to 15 people, including a couple of police personnel.

The police officers on the scene successfully brought the situation under control, with Superintendent Sumbe disclosing that the authorities deployed seven to eight teargas shells to disperse the unruly crowds.

Following the stone-pelting attack, two shops were set ablaze within the village, Superintendent Sumbe stated adding that, "We are in the process of identifying the culprits and will thoroughly scrutinise videos of the incident. Strict action will be taken against all those involved in the violence", as quoted by PTI

Purported video footage from the incident on social media captured an angry mob throwing stones at the procession while police officers attempted to intervene.
