Parliament Session: Oppn Corners Govt On Manipur, BJP Rakes Up Crime Against Women In Rajasthan
Amid a row over the Manipur viral video, the opposition is trying to corner the government in Parliament while Rajasthan BJP MPs protested against the state government over rising crime against women.
The country is boiling since after the viral video from Manipur showed two women being paraded by a group of men. The incident, which occurred in the first week of May, came to light three months after the violence battered the state. While human rights groups and citizens demanded severe punishment for the culprits, opposition parties have sought Manipur CM N Biren Singh's resignation. Meanwhile, Rajasthan BJP MPs held a protest against 'the increase in cases of crime against women' in the state in front of the Gandhi statue in Parliament. - Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) MPs of Rajasthan along with senior leaders held a protest in front of the Gandhi statue on Parliament premises in Delhi against 'rising atrocities and crime against women' in the state. The opposition has been taking a dig at CM Ashok Gehlot-led Congress government in the state after the CM sacked one of his ministers for speaking on women's safety in Rajasthan. This comes after Rajasthan Governor on Friday accepted with immediate effect the recommendation of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot to sack state minister Rajendra Singh Gudha from the state cabinet, Raj Bhawan informed, as per news agency ANI.

BJP MP Harnath Singh Yadav said, "There are atrocities against women in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal and Manipur. The opposition can only see Manipur but Rajasthan and other states have been ignored. Rajasthan Govt has failed to protect women in the state."

BJP MP CP Joshi said, "Our demand is that Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot should resign for not being able to protect women in the state. The atrocities against women in the state have been increasing in the last few years."

Meanwhile, AAP MP Raghav Chadha sought the government's response on Manipur. He said, "The country demands that the Govt and PM Modi should speak on the issue of Manipur. It is the responsibility of the Central govt to restore peace in the country. Today we are going to protest against this issue in the Parliament. Rajya Sabha Chairman should allow us to discuss on the Manipur issue"

Congress MP Manish Tewari said, "The law must take its own course but there is a distinction between what is going on in Manipur and what has happened in other parts of the country...For the past 77-78 days there has been continuing, unabated violence. The state has virtually collapsed in Manipur, there is a complete ethnic divide in the state. So anyone who tries to compare the very grave situation in Manipur with anything which may be happening in other parts of the country is for lack of a better word, either completely ill-informed or totally childish in his approach to sensitive issues. Manipur deserves the highest consideration of both Parliament and Members of Parliament..."
