Ravichandran Ashwin, Wriddhiman Saha breaks 84-year-old record

Gros Islet: After a miserable show by the top-order, Ravichandran Ashwin and Wriddhiman Saha steadied India’s ship on Day 1 of the third Test on Tuesday. The duo continued their good show on Day 2 as well and strengthened India’s position in the match. Unbeaten overnight, both Ashwin and Saha completed their centuries in the post-lunch session on Wednesday. While it was Ashwin’s fourth Test century, Saha recorded his maiden Test hundred.   India's wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha celebrates after he scored a century against West Indies during day two of their third cricket Test match at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in Gros Islet, St. Lucia, on Wednesday. (AP)   In the process, Ashwin and Saha created history. This is the first time in the history of Indian cricket that its No. 6 (Ashwin) and No. 7 (Saha) batsmen have made centuries in the same Test innings. Ashwin and Saha also shared a marathon partnership of 213 runs for the 6th wicket, which is also a record.   Ashwin_AP2   Only Mohammad Azharuddin and Sachin Tendulkar had a better partnership than this for India away from home. Azharuddin and Tendulkar scored 222 in partnership against South Africa in 1997 at Cape Town. Ashwin and Saha broke MS Dhoni and Irfan Pathan’s 2006 record of 210-run partnership scored against Pakistan at Faislabad.
